The footsteps of Portuguese culture in Southeast Asia are present since the 16th century. At the time, Portuguese trade and political occupation in the region started to shape what we have today, with strong marks in culinary and linguistic. Many are the examples of Portuguese food and words adopted and introduced in the Malay language, like almari (cupboard) from armário, baldi (bucket) from balde, bendera (flag) from bandeira, just to cite a few of them.
When on January 7th, 1981 Portugal and Singapore established diplomatic relations, a new chapter of this long history started to be written, connecting these two nations with both developed on a maritime and logistics tradition.
We, at Sapiens Global, are very proud to collaborate and develop the relationship Singapore-Portugal, as many activities in trading came to reality in the past two years. Creating opportunities to both sides, Portuguese food and beverage companies met the Singaporean importers in many occasion. Sapiens Global managed to bring importers from Singapore to Portugal, before the pandemic, meeting exporters in a seminar organised by Portugal Foods. A group of 15 Portuguese F&B exporters participated in a Virtual Mission, meeting remotely one of the biggest Singaporean distributors. Wines from Adega Ponte da Barca were sold in Singapore, in three different deals intermediated by Sapiens Global, as a business matchmaker company. Egg tarts, the “natas“, the “conservas” (canned seafood) and opportunities in Information Technology between Portuguese and Singaporean companies were among the results of both sides collaboration.
Let’s see more, as the new reality for doing business is shaping the collaboration. Sapiens Global congratulates the two nations !!
