Cafe Asia 2018: The Brazilian Yerba Mate comes to Southeast Asia

Sapiens Global booth at ICT – Coffee and Tea Industry Expo and Cafe Asia 2018, at Marina Bay Sands, introduced for the first time at this show the Brazilian Yerba Mate.

The Ilex Paraguariensis tree ( yerba mate tree) produces a nutrient rich leaf which has been heavily cultivated in Brazil and Argentina since the late 1800’s. For the local markets, the fresh leaves get dried, chopped up, matured, packaged and sold in shops and supermarkets in massive quantities as a kind of loose tea. About 30 years ago, beverages companies started to sell Mate as a refreshing drink, in a soluble form to add water or prepared in bottles, plastic cups or cans.
