New Trends in Brazilian Intellectual Property

Following the initial presentation, Mr. Akiyoshi Imaura, Director of the Regional Cooperation Office of the JPO came to an overview of Brazil/Japan PPH Agreement. Discussions on Protection of Patents and Recent Developments on trademark prosecution and perspectives for Madrid Protocol were in focus, too. The final presentation, “How to effectively enforce IP rights in Brazil”, by Mr. Joaquim Eugenio Goulart, partner at Dannemann Siemsen, has led to a succession of questions and answers, with some specific questions about difficulties faced by Japanese companies in Brazil, regarding Intellectual Property and the long time required to process the applications.

Sapiens Global took the opportunity to better understand the situation in Mercosur as one of our clients is requiring patents and trademark registration to cover Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
